RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s women’s doubles pair Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari have set their sights on going one step further at the Australian Open 2026, determined to improve on last year’s runner-up finish.
Their campaign remains on track after a commanding 21–9, 21–12 victory over Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova/Yevheniia Kantemyr in the round of 16 at Quaycentre, Sydney, on Thursday, June 11.
“This year we want to upgrade and become champions,” Ana said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.
The duo had fallen just short in 2025, losing a nail-biting final to fellow Indonesians Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum 18–21, 21–19, 21–23.
Against Buhrova/Kantemyr, Ana/Trias showed clear progress compared to their first meeting at the All England, where they needed three games to prevail.
This time, they controlled the match from the start, applying lessons learned from video analysis of their opponents. “We prepared better by studying their play from All England,” Ana explained.
Trias credited their focus as the key to victory. “The important thing was staying concentrated from beginning to end. Alhamdulillah, we finished the match without any issues,” she said.
Despite the comfortable win, the pair remain cautious, acknowledging that challenges will intensify in the later rounds.
“Now we’ll recover and boost our spirit for the quarterfinals, because the higher the stage, the tougher the opponents,” Febriana noted.
Ana/Trias will next face Malaysia’s Low Zo Yu/Naroqilah Maisarah in the quarterfinals, as they continue their push for a maiden Australian Open title. ***
