RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s singles campaign at the Australian Open 2026 saw contrasting fortunes on Wednesday, June 10, in Sydney. Anthony Sinisuka Ginting bowed out in the round of 32 after a straight-game defeat to China’s Dong Tian Yao, while rising talent Alwi Farhan progressed smoothly to the next stage.
Playing at Quaycentre, Olympic Boulevard, Ginting lost 15–21, 15–21 in a match where he admitted his opponent’s tactical adjustments proved decisive.
“Today my opponent played better than me. At first I was leading, but he changed his strategy and put me under pressure, and I couldn’t get out of it,” Ginting said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.
The world-class shuttler also acknowledged his own errors at crucial points. “I made too many mistakes, especially during critical moments. When the score was tight, I couldn’t control the game well,” he reflected.
In the first game, Ginting tried to keep pace but faltered under Dong’s relentless pressure, while in the second game he rallied to 15–15 before losing rhythm after a lengthy pause caused by his opponent’s protest.
Meanwhile, Alwi Farhan delivered a convincing performance in his opening match, defeating Taiwan’s Jhuo-Fu Liao 21–13, 21–12. The young Indonesian will next face Japan’s Minoru Koga, who overcame Taiwan’s Li Yang Su in three games, 21–13, 15–21, 21–16.
The day’s results highlight both the challenges faced by seasoned players like Ginting and the promise shown by emerging talents such as Alwi. Together, they reflect Indonesia’s ongoing pursuit of success on the global badminton stage. ***
