RRI.CO.ID, Sydney - Indonesia's men’s doubles pair Devin Artha Wahyudi/Ali Faathir Rayhan were eliminated in the round of 32 at the 2026 Australia Open, losing to Hong Kong's Hung Kuei Chun/Lui Chun Wai in a rubber match, 17-21, 21-11, 13-21.

According to the BWF website, the match at Quaycentre, Sydney, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, lasted 44 minutes. Devin/Faathir lost their footing from the start of the third game.

The first game was closely contested, with both pairs trading points up to 11-11. However, Hung/Lui played more dominantly after the interval, scoring four consecutive points to take the game.

In the second game, the Indonesian pair dominated. Devin/Faathir started with eight straight points, took the interval lead, and won comfortably.

The third game turned disastrous for the Indonesian pair as Hung/Lui opened with six consecutive points. Devin/Faathir nearly leveled the score at 11-12, but the Hong Kong pair responded strongly.

Hung/Lui then scored seven straight points to win the third game, sealing the match and handing the Indonesian pair a defeat.

“Especially in the third game, we started behind. It was similar to last week at the Indonesia Open, the same mistakes. Our play suddenly changed from the second game, and we made many unforced errors,” said Devin after the match.

He added that this was an evaluation point for him and his partner. “We need to learn how to handle situations when we are behind,” said the 19-year-old shuttler.

Meanwhile, Ali Faathir Rayhan said that he and his partner still lacked consistency in focus and playing style. “We did try to catch up, but the points kept getting away. We still lack consistent focus and game plan,” he said.

“This is an evaluation and lesson for us moving forward. We also must not be monotonous, we need to read the opponent’s pattern and find ways to counter it,” added the world No. 37 men’s doubles pair. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
