RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen was unable to advance further at the 2026 Libema Open after losing to Belgium’s Greetje Minnen in the first round of the WTA 250 tournament.
The match, held at Autotron ’s-Hertogenbosch in Rosmalen, the Netherlands, on Tuesday, June 9, was closely contested from the start. Janice, the tournament’s seventh seed, faced strong resistance from Minnen.
Both players held their serves throughout the opening set. Janice briefly took the lead, but Minnen repeatedly leveled the score. Neither player managed a service break as the set remained tied at 6-6, forcing a tie-break.
In the tie-break, Minnen proved more effective in converting points. Janice eventually dropped the opening set 6-7 (4-7).
Minnen gained control of the match in the second set. The 28-year-old Belgian won the first three games in a row to build an early advantage.
Janice claimed her first game of the set after trailing 0-3, but Minnen responded by winning three more games to seal the set 6-1.
The result extends a difficult run for Janice in singles competition, with the 24-year-old Indonesian having exited in the early rounds of several tournaments in recent months.
Despite her singles defeat, Janice still has a chance to compete in the doubles event. Teaming up with Aldila Sutjiadi, she is scheduled to face Isabelle Haverlag and Maia Lumsden on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
