RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s football leadership has reiterated its long-term commitment to developing women’s football, with Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Chairman Erick Thohir emphasizing that consistent support and patience are essential to strengthening the national program.

Ahead of Indonesia’s Women’s Garuda Championship Series 2026 match against Cambodia at Arcamanik Stadium in Bandung on Tuesday, June 9, Erick said the women’s national team must continue to receive the same attention and backing as the men’s program.

“This process certainly requires time and patience, but our support must not stop. I hope the women’s national team can play freely, enjoy the match, and give their best for the Indonesian people who always support them,” Erick said in a statement, as quoted by Antara.

The match comes after Indonesia suffered a 2-0 defeat to Singapore on June 3. Erick said the upcoming game against Cambodia should serve as an important benchmark for evaluating the team’s overall strength and cohesion.

“The women’s national team must remain confident and continue fighting. This is a match that should be used to measure the team’s strength and unity. The previous defeat must become a lesson and motivation to come back stronger and deliver a much better performance,” he said.

Erick, who also serves as Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, traveled to Bandung aboard the Whoosh high-speed train to support the team in person. His presence reflects PSSI’s commitment to providing equal support for both men’s and women’s football development.

The match also offers Indonesia an opportunity to earn valuable FIFA ranking points. The women’s national team currently sits 110th in the FIFA rankings with 1,164.95 points.

PSSI hopes continued support and investment will boost the morale of coach Satoru Mochizuki’s squad as it works to strengthen its position on the international stage. ***
