RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team is keeping its focus on internal preparations as it gears up for the FIFA Matchday clash against Mozambique, with players emphasizing the importance of executing training-ground tactics and maintaining consistency under the coaching staff’s guidance.
That emphasis on preparation has been echoed by the squad, with players highlighting the importance of consistency in training and readiness across all positions as they build momentum toward the upcoming fixture.
Midfielder Ivar Jenner said that executing the tactics developed in training remains the squad’s top priority. The Dewa United player believes consistency in following the coaching staff’s instructions will be crucial in the upcoming match.
“We just need to play the tactics we have practiced, as we always do. That’s the most important thing,” Jenner said after a training session at Madya Stadium in Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
Jenner added that the team’s immediate focus is on its own performance before analyzing its next opponent. The same approach was applied before Indonesia’s previous match against Oman. “We are focusing on our team first. We will study our next opponent soon,” he said.
Although he admitted he is not yet familiar with Mozambique’s style of play, Jenner does not view that as a concern. “I don’t know much about them yet. Maybe tomorrow we will get more information,” he added.
Meanwhile, young defender Matthew Baker described the atmosphere in training as normal, with all players following the same program to maintain their readiness for the next match.
“It’s like any other training session. All players, including those who haven’t had playing time, trained together,” Baker said, adding that every member of the squad has been fully focused during training as they prepare for the upcoming challenge.
He also said he is ready if given the opportunity to start but emphasized that the decision rests entirely with the coaching staff. “That’s the coach’s decision. We’ll see later,” he said.
Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Chairman Erick Thohir has warned Indonesia not to underestimate Mozambique ahead of their FIFA Matchday friendly.
“The important thing against Mozambique is this: don’t underestimate them,” Erick told reporters, as quoted by Antara, stressing that every international match presents its own challenges and requires maximum preparation.
Indonesia recently defeated 79th-ranked Oman 3-0, while Mozambique is ranked 101st. However, Erick stressed that the Garuda squad must approach the match with the same seriousness and determination.
Indonesia will face Mozambique in its second FIFA Matchday fixture on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The match is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. Jakarta time at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
