RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia ended a 38-year wait for a victory over Oman with a commanding 3-0 win in an international friendly at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Friday, June 5, 2026, delivering one of the national team's most significant results in recent years.
The Garuda squad secured the historic victory through goals from Justin Hubner, Ole Romeny, and Ragnar Oratmangoen, according to FIFA records. It marked Indonesia’s first win over Oman since January 18, 1988, when the Southeast Asian side also recorded a 3-0 victory at the King’s Cup in Thailand.
Playing in front of their home supporters in Jakarta, Indonesia started aggressively and threatened early through a header from Nathan Tjoe-A-On, which was cleared by Oman’s defense.
The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Nathan delivered a free kick that was met by Hubner’s header, giving Indonesia a 1-0 lead, Antara reported. Indonesia doubled its advantage in the 27th minute. Romeny broke through Oman’s defensive line and finished clinically to make it 2-0.
Oman had a golden opportunity to get back into the match after Hubner committed a foul inside the penalty area. However, Hatem Al Rushadi failed to convert from the spot as goalkeeper Emil Audero made a crucial save to keep Indonesia’s lead intact.
The hosts controlled possession and dictated the tempo for the remainder of the first half, taking their two-goal advantage into the break. Indonesia maintained its attacking approach after halftime and extended the lead to 3-0 in the 57th minute through Oratmangoen.
Oman attempted to respond, creating chances through Musaab Hamed Almamari and later Ahad Alhabshi Almusahikhi, but Audero remained solid in goal and preserved the clean sheet.
Indonesia also threatened to add further goals, with Romeny denied in pursuit of a second strike and Saddil Ramdani narrowly missing the target. Despite continued efforts from Oman in the closing stages, the score remained unchanged as Indonesia completed a memorable 3-0 victory.
Indonesia will next face Mozambique in another international friendly at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Tuesday, June 9, as the team continues its preparations for upcoming regional and continental competitions. ***
