RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - Indonesia women’s national football coach Satoru Mochizuki apologized after his team’s 2‑0 defeat to Singapore in the Garuda Championship Series 2026 at Arcamanik Stadium, Bandung, on Wednesday night, June 3, 2026.
“I want to apologize, and I feel very sad because even though we played at home, we lost today,” Mochizuki said in a statement released on Thursday, June 4, 2026, as quoted by Antara. He acknowledged the players’ fighting spirit and hard work but admitted the team failed to capitalize on opportunities.
The Japanese coach explained that his squad struggled to find rhythm from the start, despite showing promising ball movement during training sessions. “In practice, the players could move the ball well, but today they had difficulty starting the match with good rhythm,” he noted.
Mochizuki admitted he should have provided clearer guidance to help the players remain calm under pressure. “Perhaps I could have advised them to stay more composed. In football, once you lose rhythm, it is very difficult to rebuild it,” he said.
He clarified that his selection of the starting lineup was based on the physical condition and performance of players during a month‑long training camp. According to him, several players showed strong progress and deserved the chance to start.
“Players don’t only grow through training or friendlies. It is through international matches like this that they truly develop,” Mochizuki emphasized.
The defeat underscores the challenges Indonesia’s women’s team faces in building consistency, while also highlighting the importance of international exposure for player development. ***
