RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s singles ace Jonatan Christie began his campaign at the Indonesia Open 2026 with a convincing victory, moving into the second round after defeating Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh in straight games.
Playing at the Istora Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Jonatan -- popularly known as Jojo -- secured a 21-18, 21-15 win, showing composure and control throughout the match.
Jonatan admitted the opening round required some adjustments. “There was still a bit of adaptation at the start. The first round of any tournament is never easy because of factors like the court and wind conditions,” he said in a post-match press conference, as quoted by Antara.
The victory came as a welcome boost after his early exit at the Singapore Open 2026. Jonatan reflected on that setback, noting it gave him valuable recovery time.
“Because I stopped in the first round, I had more time to recover and prepare for the Indonesia Open,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Jonatan expressed his ambition to finally claim a title at home.
“I’ve never won the Indonesia Open, so my team and I decided this tournament is one of our biggest targets. I want to give my best and hopefully lift the trophy here,” he said.
The Indonesia Open, a prestigious BWF Super 1000 event, remains one of the most coveted titles in world badminton. For Jonatan, the chance to triumph in front of passionate home fans at Istora adds extra motivation to his campaign. ***
