RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian women’s singles shuttler Putri Kusuma Wardani bowed out in the round of 32 at the Singapore Open 2026 after losing to India’s Pusarla V. Sindhu in straight games, 17-21, 18-21, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The match lasted 44 minutes, with Sindhu’s sharp attacking play proving decisive. Putri initially led in the first game, taking the interval advantage. However, Sindhu adjusted her strategy, using front-court setups to launch relentless attacks that disrupted Putri’s rhythm.
“In the first game I felt comfortable, but after the interval Sindhu really built her attacks from the front, and they were very difficult to handle,” Putri said afterward.
Windy conditions also made shuttle control unpredictable, adding to the challenge. In the second game, Sindhu tightened her defense and restricted Putri’s movement. Despite a close contest, Putri was unable to overtake her opponent in the closing points.
“In the second game she really limited my overhead shots. Sindhu has been in strong form recently; her footwork is getting stronger and her attacks are executed with clear patterns,” Putri explained.
Looking ahead, Putri emphasized the need to improve consistency and focus on court. She aims to use the remaining days to sharpen her game before the Indonesia Open 2026.
“I need to be more consistent in my play and especially in maintaining focus. Hopefully, in the days leading up to the Indonesia Open next week, I can improve everything,” she said. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
