RRI.CO.ID, Paris - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen saw her French Open 2026 campaign end early after losing to American Emma Navarro in the first round at Roland Garros on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Janice bowed out in straight sets, 4-6, 3-6, in a match on Court 12 that began tightly before Navarro seized control to secure victory.
Navarro started aggressively, racing to a 3-0 lead in the opening set. Janice fought back to 1-3 and later broke serve in the seventh game to level at 4-4. However, Navarro held firm in the ninth game and broke Janice’s serve again to close out the set 6-4.
In the second set, Janice nearly converted a break point in the opening game and briefly led 2-1. But Navarro, ranked No. 25 in the world, responded with four consecutive games to take command. Despite Janice managing one more game, Navarro sealed the match after one hour and 44 minutes.
Although she fell short in singles, Janice will continue her campaign in doubles alongside Aldila Sutjiadi. The Indonesian pair is set to face Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes in their opening match on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
Navarro, meanwhile, advances to the second round to face compatriot Iva Jovic, who defeated Alexandra Eala of the Philippines 6-4, 6-2. The 17th seed showcased her firepower with 34 winners and six converted break points in her opening match. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
