RRI.CO.ID, Kuala Lumpur - Indonesian's women’s doubles pair Lanny Tria Mayasari/Apriyani Rahayu advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2026 Malaysia Masters. They defeated fellow Indonesians Isyana Syahira Meida/Rinjani Kwinnara Nastine 22-20, 19-21, 21-17.
The match lasted 75 minutes at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The all-Indonesian encounter proved to be closely contested throughout.
Lanny/Apriyani controlled most of the opening game, but Isyana/Rinjani managed to catch up and force the game into extra points. Nevertheless, Lanny/Apriyani secured the first game victory.
The second game once again featured a tight battle. Lanny/Apriyani led for much of the game before Isyana/Rinjani drew level at 18-18. Lanny and Apriyani’s performance dropped slightly in the closing stages, allowing their opponents to take the second game.
In the deciding game, both Indonesian pairs traded points until the score reached 12-12. Lanny/Apriyani then pulled away and maintained their advantage until the end of the match.
After the match, Lanny expressed gratitude for completing the game without injuries. “First of all, thank God we were able to win the match without any injuries,” Lanny said.
She explained that instead of maintaining pressure in the first and second games, she and her partner relaxed their attack too much. Playing too defensively caused them to panic and commit errors once their opponents gained attacking control.
Lanny added that their experience at last week’s Thailand Open taught them the importance of staying calm.
“We learned from the Thailand Open last week. We had a big lead in the third game but got caught and lost. Here, we had to stay calm and keep finding points even when the opponents were closing in,” she said.
Lanny also expressed disappointment at facing fellow Indonesians in the opening round, especially since Indonesia only sent two women’s doubles pairs to the tournament. “It’s unfortunate to meet teammates in the first round, especially when we only have two pairs here,” Lanny added.
Meanwhile, Apriyani said they tried to play more aggressively in the deciding game. She and Lanny kept reminding each other to remain consistent with their game plan.
“In the third game we tried to play more aggressively. We kept reminding each other to stay consistent with the pattern that allowed us to win points one by one,” Apriyani said.
“We have to stay consistent with the pattern we play. With the court conditions here, where the wind can create both advantages and disadvantages, we need to understand how to secure points,” she added.
Apriyani concluded by praising the development shown by Isyana and Rinjani. “Hira and Jani’s progress was very visible after reaching the quarterfinals at the Thailand Open. Their playing pattern is becoming more established,” she concluded. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
