RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A 25-year-old Indonesian longboarder has etched her name in surfing history, becoming the first woman from her country to earn a spot on the world's most prestigious longboarding stage.

Quoting Antara, Dhea Natasya clinched the World Surf League (WSL) Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS) 1000 Hamamatsu Open 2026 in Japan on Sunday, May 17. This historic victory officially punched her ticket to the WSL Longboard Tour 2026/2027, a milestone no Indonesian woman had previously achieved.

According to the Indonesian Surfing Association (PSOI), the feat also places Dhea in a rare company on the global stage.

"Dhea is also the fourth Asian woman, the three before her all from Japan, to enter the ranks of the elite women's longboarders in the world," PSOI wrote in an official statement on its social media accounts.

At the final held at Nakatajima Beach in Hamamatsu, Dhea delivered a commanding performance, posting a combined score of 15.87 from her two best waves, the highest total among all women competitors in the event.

She also recorded the best single-wave score of the women's competition at 8.67, outclassing two Japanese finalists, Hiroki Yoshikawa in second place and Yamaguchi Hana in third.

For Dhea, the Hamamatsu title is not her first taste of WSL glory. In July 2025, she topped the WSL Longboard Qualifying Series Siheung Korea Open, signaling her rise as a consistent force in international longboarding. She is also a gold medalist in women's longboard at the 2019 SEA Games.

Reflecting on her latest win, Dhea expressed both joy and determination. "This victory (in Hamamatsu) is my second at the WSL. I am very happy. Now I will go home and continue training to be more prepared for the Longboard Tour," she said, as quoted by the WSL website.

Indonesia's success at Hamamatsu extended beyond Dhea. Fellow longboarder Dhany Widianto also delivered a strong result, finishing as runner-up in the men's LQS 1000. Dhany accumulated a combined score of 12.96 from his two best waves, narrowly falling short of Japanese champion Taka Inoue, who edged him out with a total of 13.36 points. ***
