  • Ubed admitted he struggled mentally and tactically during the match, calling the defeat an important lesson for competing at a higher international level.

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s campaign in the men’s singles sector came to an early end at the Thailand Open 2026 after Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah fell to South Korea’s Jeon Hyeok Jin in the round of 16 at Nimibutr Stadium, Bangkok, on Thursday, May 14.

Ubaidillah, known as Ubed, was unable to break free from Jeon’s relentless pressure and lost in straight games 13–21, 5–21. He admitted struggling to execute his game plan from the start and being unsettled by his opponent’s aggressive play.

“I thought I was ready, but on court it didn’t go as I expected. I hesitated early on, felt a bit fearful, and from there my focus slipped,” he said, in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association(PBSI), as quoted by Antara.

Jeon capitalized on Ubed’s uncertainty, dictating the rallies with consistency and minimal errors. Despite attempts to fight back through longer exchanges, Ubed could not find an effective rhythm to counter Jeon’s fast and disciplined style.

The young Indonesian shuttler expressed disappointment with his performance, calling the defeat a valuable lesson in mental readiness and adaptation at higher competition levels. “I need to learn much more, and I’m definitely not satisfied with today’s performance,” he admitted.

Ubed had advanced to the second round after defeating Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul 21–10, 21–18, showing resilience in recovering from a deficit in the second game.

However, his loss to Jeon means Indonesia no longer has representation in men’s singles, following Anthony Sinisuka Ginting’s first-round exit against China’s Shi Yu Qi.

The Thailand Open 2026 is part of the BWF World Tour Super 500 series, drawing top-tier players and offering crucial ranking points. ***
