RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair Muh Putra Erwiansyah/Bagas Maulana were eliminated in the round of 32 at the Thailand Open 2026 after losing to India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty 19-21, 23-21, 10-21.
The match lasted 64 minutes at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The Thailand Open marked the debut tournament for the Putra/Bagas partnership.
“First of all, we are grateful to finish the match without injury. In the first game, we tried to find our rhythm first because this was our debut,” Bagas Maulana said after the match.
Bagas said Shetty’s flick serves created major difficulties and were particularly dangerous. However, the Indonesian pair managed to adapt in the second game.
“In the second game we tried again, we understood better how to handle it and succeeded. But, unfortunately in the third game we lost the start, and it became difficult to turn things around,” he said.
Meanwhile, Muh Putra Erwiansyah admitted that competing at a Super 500 tournament level felt very different. He said there were still many aspects they needed to improve to compete consistently at this level.
“It’s definitely different playing at this level. There were many lessons and experiences today. Bagas kept reminding me about the atmosphere and feeling of the match. There’s still a lot of homework to improve, including focus and physical strength,” Putra said.
As a newly formed pair, Putra and Bagas said they would continue working to improve together while supporting and motivating each other.
“This is also a valuable lesson for Putra playing at a higher level and experiencing what it’s like,” Bagas added. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
