RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian women’s doubles pair Isyana Syahira Meida/Rinjani Kwinnara Nastine delivered one of the early surprises at the Thailand Open 2026 after rallying past Malaysia’s seventh-seeded duo, Ong Xin Yee/Carmen Ting, to reach the second round in Bangkok on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

The Indonesian duo, popularly known as Hira/Jani, recovered after losing the opening game to win 16-21, 21-14, 21-14 in a three-game battle.

“Today (Tuesday) we played quite well, but in the first game we were too rushed and lacked confidence,” Hira said after the match on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.

After struggling in the opening game, Hira/Jani improved their rhythm in the following two games, playing with greater composure and controlling the pace of the match to complete the comeback.

Hira said the pair aimed to give their best performance regardless of their opponents’ rankings. “We want to show our best in every match, no matter who the opponent is, whether ranked above or below us,” she said.

Jani admitted she initially felt nervous returning to competition after a long absence from tournaments. “After being away for a long time, there was definitely some tension returning to competition, but we managed to overcome it. We tried to trust ourselves and each other,” Jani said.

The victory secured Hira/Jani a place in the last 16 of the Thailand Open 2026. Indonesia sent 17 representatives to the tournament, including four men’s singles players, two women’s singles players, three men’s doubles pairs, two women’s doubles pairs, and six mixed doubles pairs. ***
