RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s lead climbing athlete Putra Tri Ramadani, widely known as Srondeng, delivered a spirited performance at the World Climbing Series Wujiang 2026 in China but fell short of reaching the final after finishing ninth in the semifinals on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Srondeng scored 36+, tying with Japan’s Neo Suzuki, but missed out on the top eight cutoff due to Suzuki’s higher qualification ranking from the previous day. In Friday’s qualification round, Srondeng had placed fourth, while Suzuki topped the standings alongside compatriot Satone Yoshida, who reached the anchor at the summit.

Yoshida repeated his strong form in the semifinals, securing another top score. Spain’s Alberto Ginez Lopez finished second, followed by France’s Sam Avezou, both recording 39+.

The result meant Indonesia had no representatives advancing to the finals in the lead category. Fellow climber Raviandi Ramadan exited in qualification, while women’s competitors Sukma Lintang Cahyani and Alma Ariella Tsany also bowed out.

Indonesia sent a 13-athlete contingent to Wujiang under the Indonesian Climbing Federation (FPTI), competing in both lead and speed events from May 8–10.

Nine athletes are set to compete in speed climbing, including Veddrriq Leonardo, Kiromal Katibin, Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi, Aditya Tri Syahria, and Raharjati Nursamsa for the men, and Desak Made Rita, Kadek Adi Asih, Rajiah Salsabillah, and Berthdigna Devi for the women.

Speed qualifications and finals are scheduled for Sunday, May 10. Assistant coach Sholikhin praised Srondeng’s effort, noting that the young climber showed significant progress despite missing the final.

“In the semifinal he was relaxed and climbed with enjoyment, but at a crucial section he panicked slightly and lost his grip,” Sholikhin explained, as quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that Srondeng’s overall performance deserves recognition, as he competed strongly against elite international climbers. He said the setback was not due to poor performance but small factors in handling a difficult route.

“Putra Tri gave his best effort, but it just wasn’t his moment to reach the final this time,” he said. He expressed confidence that the Wujiang experience will serve as valuable preparation for future competitions, helping Srondeng build composure and confidence on the international stage.

Indonesia now turns its focus to the speed events, where its athletes have consistently ranked among the world’s best and are expected to deliver strong results. ***
