RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian men’s futsal team has made a historic leap in the FIFA world rankings, climbing ten places to 14th after a string of strong performances in continental tournaments.

According to FIFA’s latest update released Friday, May 8, 2026, Indonesia now holds 1,269.82 points, placing fourth in Asia behind Iran (1,507.71), Thailand (1,354.78), and Japan (1,315.11), Antara reported.

The rise was fueled by Indonesia’s run to the final of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026, where Hector Souto’s squad defeated tough opponents including Vietnam (ranked 22nd) and Japan before narrowly losing to Iran in a dramatic 5-5 draw settled by penalties.

Indonesia also reached the final of the ASEAN Futsal Championship 2026, falling 1-2 to host nation Thailand. These results have cemented the Garuda squad’s growing reputation in the region.

Globally, Brazil tops the men’s futsal rankings after winning the Copa America Futsal 2026, followed by Portugal, Spain, Argentina, and Iran. Brazil also leads the women’s rankings, ahead of Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Italy.

The Indonesian women’s futsal team, however, slipped three places to 21st with 1,033.44 points. In Asia, they now stand seventh, just below China, with Japan, Thailand, Iran, Vietnam, and Taiwan making up the top five. (EY)
