Indonesia Urges Basketball Ecosystem Through Private Sector

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and MILO Indonesia at the FIBA Indonesia Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
The signing of the cooperation was conducted by Patrick Mariller as the Chief Operating Officer of FIBA and Alaa Sahaban as the Manager of the Beverages and Confectionery Business Unit of MILO Indonesia.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, considers this signing as active private sector participation to advance sports development because national sports development is not only the responsibility of the government but also requires the involvement of the private sector.
"I greatly appreciate MILO and FIBA for their active role in developing sports in schools. The signing of this cooperation is a positive step for basketball in particular," Erick conveyed.
He added that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to strengthen collaboration with various parties in the development of sports at the grassroots level, particularly thru the provision of basketball coaches and referees.
Meanwhile, Patrick Mariller said that the collaboration is based on a shared vision of promoting a healthy lifestyle for children thru sports.
"Today is an important moment for FIBA. Our collaboration with MILO is one of our strategic achievements this year. We hope to continue spreading the spirit of healthy living thru basketball to the grassroots level," he said.
The MILO Indonesia team, thru Alaa Sahaban, also expressed full support for the strategic collaboration with FIBA, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Perbasi. According to him, this collaboration is expected to reach a wider audience in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
"Through this collaboration, we hope to jointly build an active and healthy generation thru basketball and spread limitless positive energy," Sahaban stated.
