RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian women’s national badminton team is treating its bronze medal finish at the 2026 Uber Cup as a valuable foundation for strengthening regeneration and building a more competitive squad in the years ahead.
The team reached the semifinals in Horsens, Denmark, last weekend, before falling to South Korea 1–3. Despite the defeat, the result met the target set by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) and is being viewed as a steppingstone for future progress.
Head of Development and Achievement Division at PBSI, Eng Hian, praised the athletes’ performance.
“We appreciate the players’ efforts in reaching the semifinals as targeted. Going forward, this result will serve as an evaluation so the team can perform even better,” he said in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He noted that the Indonesian squad showed clear improvement throughout the tournament, particularly in mental resilience and match quality. Importantly, several young players gained crucial experience in the team competition, which PBSI believes will strengthen the national structure in the long run.
PBSI plans to conduct evaluations across technical, strategic, physical, and mental aspects to sharpen competitiveness at the international level. Development efforts will also focus on preparing athletes to undergo accelerated training programs and maintain consistency in higher-tier tournaments.
South Korea went on to win the Uber Cup, defeating China 3–1 in the final. It was the country’s third title, following victories in 2010 and 2022. The achievement places South Korea alongside Indonesia (1975, 1994, 1996) and the United States (1957, 1960, 1963) in terms of total titles, though China remains the dominant force with 16 championships.
For Indonesia, the bronze medal is more than just a podium finish; it is a reminder of the importance of nurturing new talent and ensuring the women’s team can rise to greater heights in the global badminton arena. ***
