Indonesia Initiates Youth Collaboration and Sports Diplomacy in Southeast Asia

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesia's Ministry of Youth and Sports officially held the Southeast Asia Ministerial Meeting on Youth and Sports 2026 at The Meru Hotel, Bali, from May 3-5, 2026.This high-level meeting was initiated by Indonesia to strengthen strategic partnerships and advance sports diplomacy in the Southeast Asian region.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gunawan Suswantoro, stated that this meeting is an important momentum for the delegates to synergize and provide concrete ideas for the advancement of youth.

"Let's work together to ensure that this meeting is productive, meaningful, and impactful for the future of youth and sports in our region," Gunawan said in front of the delegations of participating countries.

Furthermore, Gunawan invited all representatives to utilize this forum as an inclusive discussion space.

"I encourage all delegations to actively participate, share perspectives openly, and contribute constructively throughout the discussion," he stated.

On the second day, Monday, May 4, 2026, the Indonesia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, is scheduled to officially open the ministerial forum. Minister Erick, who has emphasized the role of sports diplomacy as the foundation of national harmony, will be the keynote speaker at the ministerial forum agenda.

This year's meeting raised the theme "Strengthening SEA Youth Collaboration and Sports Diplomacy for a Resilient Future." This theme was chosen to highlight the strategic role of the youth as determinants of the direction of Southeast Asia's regional development in the eyes of the world thru the spirit of collaboration.
