RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Racing on home soil proved both inspiring and challenging for Indonesian driver Sean Gelael, who drew motivation from thousands of fans while competing in the GT World Challenge Asia at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday, May 3, 2026.

He said the strong crowd support boosted his confidence and energy throughout the race. “I am very happy to finally race in Mandalika in front of thousands of spectators, and it really doubled my motivation,” Sean said in a written statement on Sunday, May 3, as quoted by Antara.

Backed by Pertamina Patra Niaga, the commercial arm of state-owned oil and gas giant Pertamina, Sean delivered a competitive performance throughout the Mandalika series, securing two podium trophies in Race 1. Driving for Garage 75, he first claimed pole position after recording the fastest lap time of 1 minute 28.026 seconds.

In the opening race, Sean finished third overall and second in the Silver class, after losing his advantage due to a Full Course Yellow and Safety Car situation.

In Race 2 the following day, he started from sixth position and aimed to replicate his earlier success. Sean was in contention for a Silver class podium before an incident disrupted his run. A collision with Adderley Fong at Turn 11 forced his car into the gravel, causing damage that led to an early retirement.

“I saw him go wide and tried to overtake because the opportunity was there. But the line was closed, and the collision happened,” Sean explained.

Pertamina Patra Niaga praised Sean’s performance, highlighting how strong strategy and high‑quality fuel products contributed to his competitiveness on the international stage. ***
