RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has brought regional leaders together in Bali to spotlight youth collaboration and sports diplomacy, marking the first‑ever Southeast Asia Ministerial Meeting on Youth and Sports held from May 3–5, 2026, at The Meru Hotel.
The initiative reflects Indonesia’s push to position young people and sport as pillars of regional resilience and cooperation.
For the first time, the Ministry of Youth and Sports organized the high‑level gathering, bringing together ministers and senior officials responsible for youth and sports across Southeast Asia.
The meeting aims to strengthen strategic partnerships among countries and key stakeholders while advancing youth collaboration and sports diplomacy throughout the region.
The event carries the theme “Strengthening SEA Youth Collaboration and Sports Diplomacy for a Resilient Future,” underscoring the importance of cross‑border cooperation and the role of young people as future leaders shaping Southeast Asia’s global trajectory.
The opening day featured a Senior Officials Meeting led by Indonesia’s delegation, including Ministry Secretary Gunawan Suswantoro, Acting Deputy for Sports Industry Development Suyadi Pawiro, and the Ministry’s Special Staff for Legal and Regulatory Affairs Togi Pangaribuan. Discussions focused on key regional priorities, including youth resilience, sports talent development pathways, benchmarks, and global partnerships.
Participants actively exchanged ideas, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing youth empowerment and sports development in the region.
“I encourage all delegates to actively participate, openly share perspectives, and contribute constructively throughout the discussions. Let us work together to ensure this meeting is productive, meaningful, and impactful for the future of youth and sports in our region,” Gunawan told delegates on Sunday, May 3, as quoted on the Youth and Sports Ministry’s official website.
On the second day, May 4, ministers overseeing youth and sports, including Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir, are scheduled to convene for the ministerial session.
Minister Erick, who initiated the cross‑country collaboration, is set to officially open the meeting and speak at the ministerial forum, emphasizing sports diplomacy as a foundation for regional harmony. ***
