RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia has set ambitious targets in cycling ahead of the 2026 Asian Games, aiming to secure four gold medals. Intensive preparations are underway to achieve this goal.

The Indonesia Cycling Federation (ICF) has set the target for the Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, scheduled from September 19 to October 4, 2026. Training efforts are focused on several promising events.

ICF Secretary General Jadi Rajagukguk said track cycling is one of the main pillars for gold medal prospects. Preparations are being strengthened through various competitions, including the 2026 Indonesia Track Cup, which serves as a warm-up for athletes.

He added that the other three gold medals are targeted in BMX, mountain bike (MTB), and road race events. BMX is considered particularly promising following Indonesia’s positive results at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where Amellya Nur Sifa won gold in women’s BMX.

“In women’s freestyle BMX, then one in MTB, and one in road. So, the chairman (Listyo Sigit) has asked us to keep these four gold medal opportunities firmly in sight,” Jadi said at the 2026 Indonesia Track Cup I at the Jakarta International Velodrome on Saturday, May 2, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

To secure these targets, the ICF is increasing the frequency of competitions to maintain athletes’ performance. Events like the Indonesia Track Cup are also part of a continuous development system.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is providing support for national cycling development. The discipline is included among the 21 priority sports in the national sports master plan.

“We strongly support this Indonesia Track event. It is hoped that through this event, we can produce high-performing athletes and use it as part of the preparation for upcoming international multi-sport events,” said Deputy Secretary for Sports Performance Enhancement at the Ministry, Setiyana Djafar.

The 2026 Indonesia Track Cup is held in two series in May, with participation from six countries: Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, India, and Malaysia. The event is expected to strengthen athletes’ readiness for international competitions. ***
