RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian driver Sean Gelael is set for a new test on home soil, competing solo in the Silver Class of the 2026 GT World Challenge Asia at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit from May 1–3.
Racing with Garage 75, Sean explained that the decision to go solo was based on team requirements for the Mandalika round. “I chose to race alone because the team required it for this event,” he said after a practice session on Friday, May 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The Mandalika race marks his debut in this championship at the circuit, demanding quick adaptation to both the track and the packed schedule. “With such a tight agenda, I need to adapt fast and prepare strategies to compete with other drivers,” he added.
During Friday morning practice, Sean focused on fine‑tuning his car setup and posted a best lap time of 1.292 seconds. “Every driver aims to win, and the team expects the best result. Hopefully, I can deliver a strong performance this weekend,” he said.
Ahead of the race, Sean had already conducted extra practice sessions at Mandalika to sharpen his preparation.
The GT World Challenge Asia features FIA‑homologated GT3 cars, organized by SRO Motorsport. The series applies a Balance of Performance (BoP) system to ensure fair competition among teams.
Drivers are grouped into categories - Pro‑Am, Silver‑Am, Silver, and Am - based on rankings such as Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Each class awards its own podium finishes per race, alongside an overall championship title at season’s end. ***
