RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian skateboard community is gaining momentum as Velix Vernando Wanggai was officially sworn in for his second term as Chairman of the Indonesian Roller Sports Federation (Porserosi) for 2025–2029, in a ceremony in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Chairman Marciano Norman, who led the swearing in ceremony, used the occasion to emphasize the importance of preparing athletes for two major events: the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Both events will feature skateboarding. “I hope our skateboarders are trained thoroughly and can make us proud with their achievements,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
Porserosi’s track record already includes international success. At the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, Basral Graito Hutama won gold in men’s street, while Wayan Malana secured silver in women’s street. Earlier, Sanggoe Darma Tanjung earned silver at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Marciano also praised Porserosi’s role in organizing competitions at the 2024 National Sports Week (PON XXI) in Aceh, North Sumatra, urging the federation to continue nurturing talent for PON XXII in 2028. He stressed the need for structured, inclusive competitions and solidarity among officials to maximize performance.
Velix, whose leadership team includes former roller sports legends and active skateboarders, outlined a strategy focused on grassroots development. He noted that skateboarding thrives in communities across Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua, and requires a tailored approach different from club-based sports.
“Skateboarding is an Olympic discipline, and we must prepare athletes for international qualification. This means working closely with communities and nurturing young talent,” he explained.
Porserosi also plans to integrate sport industry, tourism, and science into its programs, aiming to elevate Indonesian roller sports and skateboarding globally. “With KONI’s guidance and government support, we are ready to take Indonesian skateboarding to the world stage,” Velix concluded. ***
