RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government expands intellectual property protection in the sports sector. Indonesia's Minister of Law , Supratman Andi Agtas, made the statement during World Intellectual Property Day 2026 in Jakarta, Sunday, April 26, 2026.
The event carried the theme “Intellectual Property and Sports: Ready to Innovate” for broader public engagement. The program brought together government officials, athletes, and industry stakeholders from various sectors. It aimed to promote innovation and economic growth through stronger intellectual property protection mechanisms.
Minister Supratman also said the government introduced intellectual property-based financing policies. The policy marks an important milestone in Indonesia’s economic and legal development framework.
“Under the administration of President Prabowo Subianto, for the first time in Indonesia’s history, intellectual property-based financing has been established by the government,” he conveyed.
Moreover, he added that Indonesia is among a limited number of countries implementing this financing scheme. The policy also involves collaboration with sectors such as sports and tourism industries.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is preparing a Deputy for Sports Industry position. The initiative aims to strengthen the sports sector and increase patent development nationwide.
“So, we hope that once the Deputy for Sports Industry is selected from the private sector, we will be able to increase patents and strengthen intellectual property within the sports industry,” he said.
The Indonesian government continues cross-ministerial coordination to support intellectual property development across sectors. The effort focuses on protection, innovation, and commercialization in the sports sector.
