RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s campaign at the Badminton Asia Championships 2026 came to an end after its last remaining pair fell in the semifinals, leaving the country without a representative in the final.

The defeat of in the semifinals left Indonesia without any representatives in the final of the 2026 Badminton Asia Championships.

In a match held at Ningbo Olympic Arena, China, on Saturday, April, 11, 2026, Indonesia's remaining men’s doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri were defeated by South Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk/Ki Dong Ju in three games, 13-21, 21-14, 16-21.

“Thankfully, today’s match went smoothly, although it was far from our expectation to win," Fajar said, as quoted on the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) official website, Antara reported.

"We fought hard, but we made many unforced errors, and that will be a lesson and evaluation for us moving forward," he added.

Fikri admitted that the South Korean pair played a very tight game and frequently disrupted their attacking strategy. “Our opponents played very tight. Their defense was extremely solid, and that exposed our weakness in terms of power. This will be something we evaluate,” Fikri said.

Echoing his partner, Fajar also acknowledged the strength of their opponents’ defense. "The opponents played very well, especially their defense, which was outstanding,” Fajar added.

The loss of Fajar/Fikri also ended Indonesia’s hopes at BAC 2026, as the country failed to send any representatives into the final.

Earlier, in the women’s doubles, Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi were defeated in straight games by top seeds from China, Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning, 10-21, 12-21.

Echoing Fikri, Fajar admitted that Kang/Ki displayed very solid defensive play throughout the match. ***
