RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah saw their campaign at the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) 2026 come to an end in the round of 16 after a straight-game defeat to China’s top-seeded duo Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping. The match, held at Ningbo Gymnasium Center in China on Thursday, April 9, finished 10-21, 15-21 in favor of the Chinese pair.

Amri admitted that slow adaptation and difficulty in handling Feng and Huang’s tactical schemes contributed to the loss. “Today our adaptation was quite slow. We often made mistakes even when the rally was already in motion. Their shots were very sharp and mature. When momentum came, we couldn’t capitalize. Our confidence didn’t rise, and we kept feeling pressured,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Nita echoed his view, noting that the Chinese pair played with remarkable solidity and left little room for opportunities. “There were very few gaps we could exploit. Whether in defense or attack, they already anticipated where the shuttle would go. We took too long to read their patterns and lacked patience,” she explained.

Following the defeat, Amri reflected on the need to improve adaptability. “We must be quicker in adjusting to opponents’ patterns when they don’t match our plan. We need to be ready for all styles of play on court—that’s what we’re still lacking,” he concluded.

The loss means Indonesia has no representatives advancing to the quarterfinals in the mixed doubles category. Earlier, fellow Indonesians Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu also exited in the round of 16 after a three-game battle against South Korea’s Kim Jae Hyeon and Jang Ha Jeong, losing 21-23, 22-20, 10-21. ***
