RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian national futsal team has booked its place in the semifinals of the ASEAN Futsal Championship 2026 after edging past Malaysia 1-0 in a tense Group B encounter at Nonthaburi, Thailand, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

The decisive goal came early in the second half when Guntur Sulistyo Aribowo broke through Malaysia’s defense and fired a powerful left-footed strike from a tight angle, leaving goalkeeper Mohammad Ammar Harith helpless, Antara reported.

Coach Hector Souto’s starting lineup featured Muhammad Albagir, Dewa Rizki Amanda, Guntur Sulistyo, Andarias Kareth, and Andres Dwi Persada. From the opening minutes, Indonesia dominated possession and created multiple chances.

Imam Anshori’s early shot was denied by Ammar, while Cris Daniel Yeimo and Andres Dwi Persada also came close but failed to convert. Guntur himself struck the post late in the first half, as Indonesia pressed relentlessly but could not find the breakthrough.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 23rd minute, and from then on Indonesia played with greater confidence. Yeimo had two more opportunities, while Yogi Saputra’s effort rattled the post, but the scoreline remained unchanged.

In the closing stages, Malaysia pushed forward in search of an equalizer, yet Indonesia’s defense held firm to secure the narrow victory.

With the win, Indonesia climbed to second place in Group B with six points, level with Australia but behind on goal difference. Australia had earlier thrashed Brunei Darussalam 13-1 to top the group.

The result guarantees Indonesia a semifinal berth, continuing their strong campaign as defending champions. Their final group match against Australia on Wednesday, April 8, on 12.30 p.m. local time, will decide who finishes as Group B winners ahead of the knockout stage beginning Friday, April 10. ***
