RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s young women’s singles player Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan has acknowledged that improving her physical condition remains the key challenge if she is to compete consistently at the highest level.
Her campaign at the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) 2026 ended in the qualifying round at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center, China, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
Thalita recorded one win and one loss in qualification. She opened with a convincing 21-8, 21-12 victory over Macau’s Pui Chi Wa but later fell to Hong Kong’s Lo Sin Yan Happy 17-21, 12-21 in the decisive match for a place in the main draw.
“Alhamdulillah, I was able to finish the matches without injury, but the result was not optimal because I couldn’t get revenge from our last meeting at BATC 2026,” she said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) after the match, as quoted by Antara.
Reflecting on her performance, Thalita admitted she struggled with unforced errors and endurance, particularly in long rallies.
“I made too many mistakes, lacked stamina, and couldn’t anticipate my opponent’s shots well. She had strong overhead strokes and solid defense,” she explained.
The difference in experience was also evident, with Lo more accustomed to competing at senior level compared to her first-round opponent. “Against my first opponent in the morning, the level wasn’t too high, but in the afternoon, I faced someone who regularly plays at senior level,” Thalita noted.
From the setback, she underlined the importance of physical conditioning to sustain performance against players with higher intensity. “My evaluation going forward is that I need to improve my physical strength,” she concluded.
Although she did not advance to the main draw, Thalita described her BAC debut as a valuable learning experience. She believes the lessons gained will help sharpen her game and prepare her for future international tournaments. ***
