RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has dispatched a 22-member delegation to China for the World Climbing Asia Championship Meishan 2026, a qualifier event where athletes will compete for spots at the Asian Games later this year.

The team comprising 16 athletes along with coaches and officials, departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday night, April 5, 2026, and is scheduled to arrive in Meishan on Monday morning, April 6, local time.

“We are already on the plane, departing at 10:50 p.m. Jakarta time and scheduled to arrive at 05:50 a.m. local time,” team manager and head of delegation Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro said on Sunday, April 5, as quoted by Antara.

Upon arrival, the entire delegation will head straight to the hotel to rest and recover from the long journey before beginning preparations.

Indonesia fields nine athletes in the speed discipline and seven in lead and boulder events for the competition, which runs from April 7 to 12.

Speed team coach Galar Pandu Asmoro emphasized that recovery and adaptation will be the immediate priorities. “We will focus on full rest and recovery after the long journey, while adapting to the local weather and conditions. We ask for your support,” he said.

The championship serves as a qualification pathway to the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. To secure qualification, speed climbers must finish at least in the top eight, while athletes in lead and boulder disciplines need to reach the top six.

Three Indonesian climbers have already secured their spots for the Asian Games: Putra Tri Ramadani (men’s lead), Sukma Lintang Cahyani (women’s lead), and Ravianto Ramadhan (men’s boulder).
