RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian young climbers are once again setting their sights on the international stage, with the 2026 Asian Games as their primary focus. Qualification opportunities have now opened through the Asian Championships.

Lead and boulder climber Raviandi Ramadhan is targeting a top-six finish in both disciplines at the 2026 World Climbing Asia Championship in Meishan, China, on April 7–12. Achieving this goal would secure his place at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, this September.

Raviandi explained that he was initially projected to compete only in the boulder discipline. “But because of many changes this year, I’m also focusing on lead,” he said at the Indonesian rock climbing team’s National Training Camp (Pelatnas) in Bekasi City, West Java, on Saturday, April 4, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Despite the adjustment, Raviandi is confident he can adapt to the demands of competing in two disciplines. He noted that he is already familiar with both, and his training alongside his twin brother, Ravianto Ramadhan, both domestically and during their European tour, has prepared him for competition at the Asian level.

“My biggest motivation is to follow in my twin brother’s footsteps, because we share the same goal: to bring honor to Indonesia,” said the athlete from Papua.

According to Raviandi, competing in two disciplines presents both a challenge and an opportunity to demonstrate his progress during the training camp organized by the Indonesian Climbing Federation (FPTI).

Competition is expected to be fierce, particularly in the boulder event, where East Asian nations such as China, Japan, and South Korea dominate. However, opportunities remain, as several countries have already secured automatic quotas.

Raviandi also acknowledged the strength of Southeast Asian athletes, especially from Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, but expressed optimism that his training progress will enhance his performance in China.

Meanwhile, three Indonesian athletes have already secured their places at the 2026 Asian Games: Tri Ramadani (men’s lead), Sukma Lintang Cahyani (women’s lead), and Ravianto Ramadhan (men’s boulder).

All three earned automatic qualification following their achievements at the 2025 World Championships in South Korea and will therefore not compete in the Asian Championships in Meishan. ***
