RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s successful staging of the FIFA Series 2026 in Jakarta has strengthened its position as a potential host for future international football events, with FIFA highlighting the country’s professionalism and strong institutional support.

The tournament, held at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, was praised for its organization and execution. FIFA Director for Asia and Oceania Sanjeevan Balasingam said Indonesia was chosen due to its professionalism and the government’s commitment to football development.

“This is what FIFA wants. Indonesia is professional, PSSI (Indonesian Football Association) is professional. The Indonesian government fully supports football. We want to be in countries like Indonesia,” Sanjeevan said after the tournament concluded on Monday, March 30, 2026, as quoted on Youth and Sport Ministry's official website on Tuesday, March 31.

He added that Indonesia has a strong opportunity to host more FIFA events in the future, provided it maintains its current standards. “There is definitely a chance for Indonesia to host again in the future,” he said.

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir welcomed FIFA’s positive assessment and expressed gratitude to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and government officials for their support during the tournament. “We hope that through this FIFA Series, we will be given another opportunity by FIFA to host future tournaments. We have tried to give our best for FIFA and all guests,” Erick said.

The FIFA Series 2026 in Jakarta featured Indonesia, Bulgaria, St Kitts and Nevis, and the Solomon Islands. Bulgaria emerged as champions after narrowly defeating Indonesia 1-0 via a penalty, while St Kitts and Nevis secured third place with a 4-2 win over the Solomon Islands.

The event is seen as a key milestone in Indonesia’s efforts to establish itself as a reliable host on the global football stage. ***
