RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s track and field athletes are making their mark across Asia, with March 2026 bringing a string of standout performances that signal growing momentum for the sport at home. From pole vault dominance in Taiwan to competitive finishes in Japan’s race walking championships, the results reflect both individual brilliance and the strength of national training programs.
Pole vaulter Diva Renatta Jayadi emerged as the month’s headline act, sweeping two titles in Taiwan. She cleared 4.20 meters to win the Taiwan International Indoor Pole Vault Meet on March 22, then repeated the feat just days later at the Nantou International Pole Vault Invitational Meet at Sun Moon Lake on March 25. Her back-to-back victories underscored Indonesia’s rising presence in technical events traditionally dominated by other nations.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s race walking team showed resilience at the Asian Half Marathon Race Walking Championships and NOMI 2026 in Ishikawa, Japan, on March 15. Violine Intan Puspita secured sixth place in the women’s marathon walk with a time of 3 hours 52 minutes 39 seconds, while Halida Ulfah matched that result in the women’s half marathon walk, finishing in 1 hour 54 minutes 37 seconds.
On the men’s side, Hendro placed 14th in the marathon walk, clocking 3 hours 28 minutes 53 seconds.
Chairman of the Indonesian Athletics Federation (PASI), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, praised the athletes’ achievements as evidence of effective development programs. “These results show our training is on the right track. They will serve as valuable evaluation material as we prepare for future competitions,” he said in a written statement, as quoted by Antara.
He also highlighted the role of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and strategic partnerships with MIND ID, noting that such collaboration is crucial to expanding international exposure and keeping athletes competitive on the global stage.
Taken together, March’s performances suggest Indonesia’s athletics program is steadily building depth and confidence, with athletes beginning to challenge regional rivals in both endurance and technical disciplines. ***
