RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s strong badminton tradition took center stage in Bali as the country hosted a series of high-profile events, including the Badminton Asia Exco Meeting, Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Badminton Asia Awards, and a gala dinner on March 27-28, 2026.

The gatherings drew key figures such as Badminton World Federation (BWF) President Khunying Patama Leewadtrakul, Badminton Asia President Kim Jong Soo, and representatives from badminton associations across Asia.

During the awards ceremony, Chairman of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) and Vice President of Badminton Asia, Fadil Imran, received the Meritorious Award for Governance and Leadership. The honor recognizes executives whose leadership and governance help shape a stronger future for badminton.

Fadil emphasized that the award reflects collective effort across Indonesia’s badminton ecosystem, from athletes and coaches to administrators and stakeholders. “This is not an individual achievement. It is about shared responsibility -- toward athletes, fans, and future generations,” he said, as quoted on the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) official website.

Against the backdrop of growing competition from digital entertainment, badminton faces a crucial challenge: staying relevant. Three priorities were highlighted: making the sport more engaging for younger audiences; ensuring inclusivity beyond elite circles; and strengthening governance through transparency, professionalism, and innovation, including sport science and digital engagement.

Indonesia, with its deep badminton heritage, views the sport as part of national identity and pride. Yet Fadil stressed that its future depends on collaboration. “The future of badminton will be determined by sharing knowledge, building trust, and moving forward together,” he noted.

Beyond awards and discussions, the Bali AGM served as a strategic forum to reinforce governance and foster collaboration among Asian federations, while also showcasing Indonesia’s ability to host a professional and memorable international event. ***
