RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian national soccer team coach John Herdman has introduced high‑intensity training sessions as part of short‑term preparations for the 2026 FIFA Series. The Garuda squad is required to adapt quickly to the tactical approach brought in by the Canadian coach.

Herdman acknowledged that the limited preparation time has forced him to accelerate tactical work. “Players come with different levels, different intensities. As a coach, you have to adapt to that,” Herdman told the media after a training session at Gelora Bung Karno’s Madya Stadium in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 24.

Defender Rizky Ridho said the intensity of training under Herdman has increased significantly, noting the coach’s detailed methods. “Before practice, he brings a TV onto the field, so we watch the tactics he wants first. That was a first‑time experience for me,” Rizky said.

He added that despite the Eid al‑Fitr break, players’ physical condition remains good. “Our physical fitness hasn’t declined, and we’re ready for this training camp,” he said. He emphasized that the squad is gradually adapting to the new methods introduced by the coaching staff. “We’re gradually understanding and adapting to what he asks of us during training,” he said.

The current training program is part of preparations for Indonesia’s match against St. Kitts and Nevis in the 2026 FIFA Series. The match will take place on Friday, March 27, at 8 p.m. Jakarta Time at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK). (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
