RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis star Janice Tjen saw her singles run at the Miami Open come to an early end but will continue competing in the doubles event following a three-set defeat to Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Janice, currently ranked 40th in the world, lost 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida after initially taking control of the match by winning the opening set, Antara reported.
Putintseva, ranked 75th, turned the momentum in the second set by breaking Janice’s serve and building a 5-2 lead. Although Janice fought back to 5-3, Putintseva held serve to level the match at one set apiece.
In the deciding set, both players were tied 1-1 before Putintseva capitalized on a double fault to break serve and move ahead 2-1. She extended her advantage to 3-1 and maintained her edge despite Janice cutting the deficit to 2-3.
After both players held serve in the following games, Putintseva took control by winning the eighth game with an ace to lead 5-3. Janice managed to delay defeat by winning the ninth game, but Putintseva sealed the match on her second match point after an aggressive final game.
Janice will now shift her focus to the doubles competition, where she teams up with Taiwan’s Chan Hao-ching. The pair are set to face fourth seeds Elise Mertens and Zhang Shuai on Saturday, March 21. ***
