RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has expressed its support for the upcoming Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Men's Volleyball Champions League 2026, which is scheduled to take place in Pontianak, West Kalimantan from May 13 to 17, 2026.
As quoted from the ministry’s official website, Minister, Erick Thohir, said that international sporting events such as the tournament can generate significant economic benefits for the country.
“Through sporting events such as the Men’s Volleyball Champions League, we can encourage the organization of more international-level competitions that will ultimately contribute to economic growth,” Erick said during the tournament’s drawing and press conference held on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Le Meridien Jakarta in Central Jakarta.
He added that the sport tourism sector and the sports industry have considerable potential, citing the example of the United States, which controls around 40 percent of the global sports and sport tourism industry.
“The United States dominates about 40 percent of the sports and sport tourism industry. This shows that the sector has enormous economic potential,” he said.
Erick also encouraged collaboration among the government, private sector, and communities to maximize the economic potential of the sports sector.
“Therefore, I invite all parties such as the government, private sector, communities, and sports groups to collaborate. I am optimistic that this sector will have a positive impact on our economic growth,” he added.
The minister also expressed appreciation to Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi for its commitment to developing volleyball and for helping bring an international-level tournament to Indonesia.
“We hope to achieve the best results this year. I also appreciate Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi for its consistent commitment to developing volleyball across the country,” Erick said.
