RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s top women’s singles player Putri Kusuma Wardani overcame a tense battle against Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh to reach the semifinals of the BWF World Tour Super 300 Swiss Open 2026.

The quarterfinal clash at St. Jakobshalle, Basel, on Friday, Marcah 13, 2026, saw Putri recover from an early deficit in the second game to claim a 21-18, 21-19 victory.

Putri admitted the match was challenging, particularly in the second game when she fell behind early. “I didn’t expect to take the second game because I was already far behind from the start,” she said in an official statement from Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Saturday, March 14, as quoted by Antara.

The first-seeded Indonesian praised Opatniputh’s solid performance, noting her height advantage and improved defense in the second game.

“She played very well. With her tall stature and long reach, she could neutralize my attacks. Her defense was more prepared in the second game, and she slowed down the tempo, so I had to be patient,” Putri explained.

Patience proved key to Putri’s victory. By staying calm, varying her shots, and avoiding rushed attacks, she overcame the deficit to secure the win. “I’m happy I could get out of the pressure. It was tough chasing the points, but I tried to be patient and not rush my attacks while mixing in longer shots,” she added.

In the semifinals, Putri will face Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara. “Tomorrow against Okuhara, I have to be ready to expend energy like today and yesterday. Her shots will be harder and more unpredictable; she has good tactical variations,” Putri said, anticipating another demanding match.

Despite the competitive intensity, Putri is enjoying her time in Switzerland. “Switzerland is a beautiful country with clean air. It’s been quite enjoyable to be here,” she remarked. ***
