RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian mixed doubles pair Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu made a strong start to their Swiss Open 2026 campaign, comfortably defeating England’s Callum Hemming/Estelle Van Leeuwen in straight games to reach the second round.

The Indonesian duo secured a 21-17, 21-7 victory at St. Jakobshalle in Basel on Thursday, March 12, 2026, with their opponents struggling to cope with sustained pressure throughout the match.

Felisha admitted she initially expected tougher resistance from the British pair, whom they had previously faced during training sessions. “At first, I thought they would give more resistance. But maybe because this was a match, the pressure was different,” Felisha said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.

Jafar also observed that Hemming and Van Leeuwen were unable to play with their usual rhythm and committed several unforced errors. “They made quite a lot of mistakes. We just tried to keep the shuttle in play and make the game comfortable for us,” Jafar said.

Seeded third in the tournament, Jafar/Felisha will face Malaysia’s Jimmy Wong/Lai Pei Jing in the second round. The match will mark their second meeting after the Indonesian pair won their first encounter at the Australia Open 2025 on November 19. ***
