Putri Kusuma Wardhani Advances Smoothly at Swiss Open 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian rising badminton star Putri Kusuma Wardhani showed composure and confidence at the Swiss Open 2026, easing into the second round without difficulty while highlighting the increasingly competitive landscape in women’s singles.
Putri KW said she had no trouble adapting to the playing conditions in Basel, Switzerland. “Adaptation to the court was not an issue. The competition here is very balanced, so I cannot afford to let my guard down in any match,” she told the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Her opening performance was convincing, as she defeated India’s Tanvi Sharma in straight games, 21-11 and 21-10, at St Jakobshalle. Despite the dominant scoreline, Putri KW admitted to initial nerves given Sharma’s recent strong form, including a notable victory over Japan’s former world champion Nozomi Okuhara.
“Alhamdulillah (All praises to Allah), I was able to stay calm and execute my game plan. At first I was a bit tense because Tanvi has been in the spotlight lately, but I managed to control the match and she eventually made more errors,” Putri KW explained.
Seeded first in the tournament, Putri KW now prepares for her next challenge against Malaysia’s Wong Ling Ching, ranked 37th in the world. The upcoming clash will mark their first-ever meeting, adding intrigue to Putri’s campaign as she seeks to maintain her momentum in Switzerland.
