RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian women's doubles pair Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari progressed to the round of 16 at the 2026 Swiss Open after a convincing straight-games victory, while compatriots Muhammad Rian Ardianto/Rahmat Hidayat were eliminated in the men’s doubles first round.

Playing at St. Jakobshalle in Basel on Wednesday morning, March 11, 2026, Febriana/Meilysa defeated Japan’s Hinata Suzuki and Nao Yamakita 21-16, 21-10 to secure a spot in the last 16. The Indonesian pair will next face China’s Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian.

“We want to play without pressure against Jia Yi Fan/Zhang Shu Xian in the round of 16. As for the strategy, it will be discussed tomorrow with coach Karel,” Meilysa said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.

Febriana emphasized that the team’s priority would be recovery before their next match. “Tomorrow is a rest day, which we will dedicate to maximum recovery, along with some training. We will prepare as best as we can,” she said.

The duo said their strategy worked well in the opening round as they were able to neutralize the Japanese pair’s drop-shot attacks. “After the first eleven points, we changed our playing pattern and were better prepared,” she added.

The upcoming clash against Jia/Zhang will mark the first meeting between the two pairs.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair Muhammad Rian Ardianto/Rahmat Hidayat were knocked out in the first round after losing 16-21, 27-29 to Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai. Rian admitted they struggled to find momentum early in the match.

“Maybe our start wasn’t good enough. We couldn’t get into the game immediately, so we were still hesitant and made many unforced errors that boosted our opponents’ confidence,” Rian said.

Rahmat also acknowledged he lacked aggression despite having opportunities to take control of the match. “I should have been braver at the end, but I was afraid of making mistakes,” Rahmat said.

Rian added that the Malaysian pair played solidly throughout the match. “They have a good no-lob game and quick anticipation. That seems to be their strength,” he concluded. ***
