RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia recorded mixed results at the 2026 All England Open in Birmingham, with men’s doubles pair Muhammad Rian Ardianto/Rahmat Hidayat advancing to the quarterfinals while women’s doubles duo Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi exited in the round of 16.

Rian/Rahmat secured their place in the last eight after defeating Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin in straight games, 23-21, 21-16, at the Utilita Arena Birmingham on Thursday, March 5, 2026, Antara reported. Rian said, the key to their victory was maintaining focus on their service and attacking setup.

“The key to today’s win was focusing on our serves and the opening shots. We played with more confidence and belief,” Rian said in an official statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Friday, March 6, 2026.

The first game proved highly competitive. Rian/Rahmat initially took the lead, but Goh/Izzuddin turned the match around and reached game point at 20-17. Despite the pressure, the Indonesian pair remained composed and gradually clawed their way back point by point before eventually claiming the opening game 23-21.

“In that situation when we were trailing, we told ourselves the match wasn’t over yet, so we tried to focus on one point at a time,” Rian added.

Meanwhile, Indonesian women’s doubles pair Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi shifted their attention to maintaining physical fitness ahead of the 2026 Swiss Open after being eliminated in the round of 16. The pair lost to Japan’s fifth-seeded duo Yuki Fukushima/Mayu Matsumoto straight games, 15-21, 16-21, at the same venue on Thursday, March 5.

Pratiwi said they did not want to dwell too long on the defeat as they must prepare for the next tournament. “There is still the Swiss Open next week, so we have to keep our condition from dropping. Our stamina must stay strong,” she said in a written statement from PBSI on Friday, March 6.

She added that, in terms of gameplay, the pair had actually found the right strategy against the Japanese duo but struggled with consistency during the match. “Only our consistency was still fluctuating,” she added.

Meanwhile, Fadia expressed her gratitude for being able to complete the match while giving their best effort. She acknowledged that there had been opportunities to narrow the gap, but unforced errors allowed their opponents to lead once again. ***
