RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia experienced contrasting results at the All England Open 2026 in Birmingham, with Putri Kusuma Wardani securing a quarterfinal spot while Jonatan Christie, Jojo, was knocked out in the round of 16. Putri advanced to the last eight after defeating South Korea’s Kim Ga-eun 25-23, 21-15 at the Utilita Arena on Thursday, March 5, 2026, local time. She will next face tournament top seed An Se-young.
“If I meet An Se Young, I want to play with a nothing-to-lose mindset. I’m also curious because we’ve met several times and I’ve only managed to take one game,” Putri said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.
She added that she intends to stay focused on each rally rather than thinking too much about the result. “I don’t want to think too much. The important thing is to chase the shuttlecock before it hits the floor,” she said. She added she was generally satisfied with her performance against Kim Ga Eun, despite feeling slightly out of breath early in the match following a previous shortened game played only to 11 points.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s men’s singles star Jonatan Christie, was eliminated after losing in straight games to Taiwan’s Lin Chun-yi 19-21, 12-21. “Praise God, I’m still grateful even though the result wasn’t what I hoped for. I feel I did my best,” Jonatan said in the same PBSI statement.

Jonatan said, Lin delivered a very solid performance with fast-paced play and varied shot selection that proved difficult to counter. “He played much faster and had several shot variations that were quite difficult to finish,” he said.
The situation made Jonatan less calm in developing his game, causing some of his prepared strategies to fall short. “Maybe because of that I wasn’t calm enough and couldn’t be more patient. Some of the strategies I tried to apply didn’t work well,” he explained. ***
