RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A last-minute goal in extra time shattered Indonesia’s hopes of reaching the 2026 AFF Women’s Futsal Championship final, as Australia edged a thrilling semifinal 3-2 in Thailand on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
The dramatic encounter at Terminal 21 Korat in Nakhon Ratchasima saw Indonesia twice take the lead, only for Australia to fight back each time before sealing victory in the dying seconds of extra time, Antara reported.
Indonesia struck first in the eighth minute when Insyafadya Salsabillah finished a swift counterattack to put Garuda Pertiwi ahead. Australia responded almost immediately, with Clare Holder converting a free kick just a minute later to level the score.
In the second half, Indonesia once again regained the advantage. Dhea Febrina produced a fine individual effort in the 29th minute, dribbling past goalkeeper Sarah Easthope to make it 2-1. But Australia equalized again a minute later, as Holder netted her second goal from another set piece to bring the score to 2-2.
With the sides locked at the end of normal time, the match went into extra time.
Australia dominated possession during the additional periods and applied sustained pressure, while Indonesia relied on counterattacks that failed to seriously trouble their opponents. Indonesia deployed a power-play strategy in the second half of extra time, but the gamble did not pay off.
The decisive moment came in the final minute of extra time when Trudy Camilleri found the net, sending Australia through to the final with a 3-2 victory.
Australia will meet the winner of the other semifinal between Thailand and Vietnam. Indonesia will play in the third-place playoff against the loser of that match.
