RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia launched a strong push at the German Open 2026 as two of its representatives advanced to the round of 16, combining tactical discipline and growing on-court chemistry to keep their European campaign on track in Mulheim an der Ruhr, Germany.

Competing at the Westenergie Sporthalle, Indonesian women’s doubles pair Apriyani Rahayu/Lanny Tria Mayasari secured their place in the last 16 after defeating the United Arab Emirates duo Mysha Omer Khan/Taabia Khan 21-9, 21-12 in the opening round.

Apriyani said the pair would carry out a comprehensive evaluation ahead of their next match against Japan’s Kaho Osawa/Mai Tanabe.

“We will conduct an evaluation and analysis first. We will study their weaknesses and playing habits, including watching their match videos, so we can be better prepared,” Apriyani said in an official statement on Thursday, February 26, as quoted by Antara.

Lanny acknowledged that they initially struggled to adjust to match conditions.

“In the early points we were still adapting to the court conditions and the shuttlecock used in the match. During training we didn’t use the same shuttlecock as today, so at the start we were still searching for the right feel,” she said.

After the mid-game interval in the first set, however, their performance stabilized. “After point 11 and above, we started to find the right pattern. From there our game became more stable and we could control the match,” Lanny added.

Apriyani also noted that the cold arena temperature influenced their touch early on, but the pair eventually adapted and closed the match in straight games.

In mixed doubles, Indonesia/Singapore combination Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja/Hee Yong Kai Terry also progressed to the round of 16 after defeating Switzerland’s Yann Orteu/Caroline Racloz 21-8, 21-16 in the round of 32.

Despite limited preparation time together, Gloria said they maximized their understanding during competition.

“Even though our training time together hasn’t been much, we try to maximize it during matches. We already understand each other’s playing patterns, we know where to move and what to do,” she said in a statement on the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) official website.

She added that technical aspects posed few problems, while communication and mental readiness remained areas to refine.

Terry said they managed to execute their game plan effectively from the outset. “Today I felt I played in quite good condition. Overall, the performance was as expected and we were able to control the match from the beginning,” he said.

He also highlighted Gloria’s strength at the net as key to their balance on court. “Playing with Gloria feels very fitting. She is very strong in front-court play, which really helps and covers my game. My task is to work hard on court so we can complement each other,” he added.

Following their victories, both Indonesian pairs shifted focus to recovery and match preparation as they aim to maintain momentum in the Super 300 tournament. ***
