RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s hopes of reaching the semifinals of the 2026 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship took another blow after a 4-4 draw with Malaysia in their second Group A match at Terminal Hall 21, Thailand, on Wednesday, February 25. The result leaves Indonesia in a precarious position, having already suffered a 0-3 defeat to hosts Thailand in their opening game.
Indonesia started brightly, racing to a two-goal lead within the first six minutes through Nisma Francida. Her early strike deflected off a Malaysian defender to beat goalkeeper Asma Binti Junaidi, before she doubled the advantage with a precise finish from Marsya Aulia’s throw-in.
But the momentum quickly shifted. Malaysia responded with three goals in rapid succession - Syafiqah in the 8th minute, Syuna in the 10th, and Nur Lyana in the 15th - turning the contest on its head and sending Indonesia into halftime trailing 2-3.
The second half brought renewed fight from Luis Estrela’s squad. Firti Amelya leveled the score at 3-3 in the 23rd minute, and Indonesia regained the lead ten minutes later when Novita Murni Piranti’s corner deflected off Syafiqah for an own goal.
Yet Indonesia’s defense faltered in the dying moments. Syafiqah struck again in stoppage time (40+1), ensuring Malaysia escaped with a point and leaving Indonesia frustrated at letting victory slip away.
With this draw, Indonesia’s path to the semifinals now depends on other results. To advance, they must hope Malaysia loses to Thailand by a margin of more than three goals in Thursday’s decisive fixture. ***
