RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen has reached a career milestone, breaking into the world’s Top 40 for the first time after a strong run in the Middle East swing of the WTA Tour. The 23-year-old climbed 10 places to No.36 on Monday, February 23, 2026, marking Indonesia’s growing presence in elite women’s tennis.

Competing as a wild card at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, a WTA 1000 event, Janice recorded her fourth career Top 30 victory by defeating Leylah Fernandez. The win carried her into the round of 16 at a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time, repeating her success against Fernandez after their clash at the Australian Open earlier this season.

Her rise follows a series of notable performances across the Middle East. At the WTA 1000 Qatar Total Energies Open in Doha, Janice defeated Brazil’s Beatrice Haddad Maia 6-0, 6-1 before falling to world No.1 Iga Swiatek in the second round.

She began the swing at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, where she upset Australia’s rising star Maya Joint in the opening round of the WTA 500, though later exited against fifth seed Liudmila Samsonova. In doubles, she reached the semifinals alongside Filipino partner Alexandra Eala.

Eala also celebrated a breakthrough, jumping 16 spots to No.31 after reaching the quarterfinals in Dubai.
