RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Janice Tjen set to begin her campaign at the Merida Open 2026. The Indonesian tennis player has been seeded sixth at the WTA 500 tournament in Mexico, scheduled for February 23–March 1.
In her opening-round match on Tuesday, February 24, Janice will face Colombia’s Camila Osorio, Antara reported.
Osorio, 24, currently sits at world No. 62. She enjoyed a strong 2025 season, winning the WTA 250 Bogota for the third time in her career and the second consecutive year. She also reached the semifinals in Rabat and the quarterfinals in Singapore.
Janice, meanwhile, enters the event ranked No. 46 as of Sunday night, February 22. For Janice, 2025 was a breakthrough year. She reached the final of the WTA 250 in Sao Paulo before making history in Chennai, where she captured her first WTA Tour singles title.
That victory made her the first Indonesian to win a WTA singles crown since Angelique Widjaja triumphed in Pattaya City in 2002. Her ranking surged from No. 411 to a career-high No. 53.
Janice also found success in doubles, winning her first two titles in Guangzhou with Katarzyna Piter and in Chennai with Aldila Sutjiadi. She added a WTA 125 title in Jinan and six ITF singles trophies during the first half of the season.
Ahead of Merida, Janice wrapped up the Middle East Swing with encouraging results. She reached the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 Dubai after falling in the round of 32 at the Qatar Open. In Doha, she was stopped by top seed Iga Swiatek, while in Abu Dhabi she exited in the second round against fifth seed Liudmila Samsonova after receiving a wild card.
Janice will also compete in doubles alongside Piter. The pair is set to face Madeleine Brooks and Shuo Feng in their opening match. ***
